Job Overview

The Department of Radiology at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine is seeking a full-time Mid-Level Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) who will work with a designated supervisor to assist in providing comprehensive, continuous, and personalized care to patients in various areas of interventional radiology. 

 

This position will work at various locations include West Chester Hospital (WCH), University of Cincinnati Medical Center (UCMC) and other sites on a work schedule from Monday through Friday, 7:00 am – 5:00 pm.

Essential Functions

  • Understand the indications, alternatives, risks and steps of IR procedures in order to provide this information to patients, family members, referring physicians, physician offices and other healthcare providers.
  • Perform history and physical examinations prior to IR procedures performed by providers in the Department of Radiology.
  • Perform informed consent for IR procedures for outpatient and inpatients.
  • Perform pre-procedure and post-procedure IR orders.
  • Perform admitting history and physical and discharge and write orders for inpatients admitted to the IR service.
  • Provide medication reconciliation, prescribing and discharge for patients undergoing outpatients IR procedures.
  • Make rounds on inpatients following IR procedures and other patients as scheduled.
  • Answer telephone calls from patients regarding IR procedures.
  • Perform evaluation of new inpatient and outpatient IR procedure requests/consultations and review with IR physicians.
  • Evaluate and coordinate outpatient and inpatient IR procedure requests and address peri-procedural medical and scheduling issues. Communicate with requesting providers, IR physicians, IR technologist coordinator, and IR scheduler during the workday. In IR cases involving complex interactions between other services (e.g., Anesthesia, Gastroenterology, and Transplant Surgery) facilitate communication and coordination of activities.
  • Perform follow up outpatient visits on patients who have previously underwent IR procedures.
  • Become knowledgeable in Epic in regard to IR, such as the use of the Status Board and assisting rotating IR resident physicians in on-boarding to our workflow.
  • Participate in IR section quality safety program (biopsy follow-up, Morbidity & Mortality maintenance).
  • Attend monthly IR Morbidity & Mortality Conferences, prepare/submit material as directed.
  • Assist the IR physician in a fluoroscopic procedure, as needed.
  • Possible coverage of weekends for rounding and consultations.
  • Coverage of IR clinic/outpatient setting.
  • Perform the following procedures with image guidance such as:
    • Paracentesis
    • Thoracentesis
    • Abscessogram/drainage catheter study
    • Gastrostomy tube exchange
    • Non-tunneled and tunneled central venous catheter placement
    • Catheter removals

Minimum Requirements

Nurse Practitioner:

Required Education
Master’s degree from accredited nursing program.
Required Trainings/Certifications
Active Ohio APRN license with prescriptive authority AND active Board Certification in appropriate nursing specialty.
Required Experience
Three (3) years nursing experience.

Physician Assistant:

Required Education
Master’s degree from accredited physician assistant program.
Required Trainings/Certifications
Active Ohio Physician Assistant license with prescriptive authority AND certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants.
Required Experience
Minimum of one (1) year experience is required. 

Additional Qualifications Considered

  • Experience in Interventional Radiology, including interventional spine procedures.
  • Experience in Epic electronic health record system.
